There are several types of laminate flooring. After reading many reviews the easiest type for the do it yourself person is the Clic Laminate Flooring. The brands that come to mind for clic flooring are Alloc, Columbia and Nirvana. The AC Rating is one way to help you decide which flooring will be the best.
Most laminate flooring manufacturers follow the AC rating for their product. Clic Laminate Flooring has the same ratings as any laminate flooring. The AC ratings start at unrated which is not a very good choice to buy. A1 is for light use. It might be considered in a residential bedroom setting. The ratings go up to A5 which is the toughest laminate flooring on the market. Suggested use for A5 rated flooring is commercial, high traffic areas like department store settings. The rating to consider for residential is A3. You might think A4 or A5 would be better, but they have a rougher surface and might not be comfortable to bare feet or stocking feet.
The Columbia Clic Laminate flooring has at least eighteen different choices in colors and styles. It has a lifetime warranty against wear, fading, tear and staining. Columbia has the same warranty for its moldings as it does for the flooring. You can actually buy it for about $1.75 a square foot. Most of the Alloc brand laminate flooring you can buy for about $2.39 a square foot. It is rated an A4 and has a 30 year guarantee for residential use. Nirvana has several choices of color. It is rated at A3 and has a 25 year warranty. You can buy it for about $1.60 a square foot.

Before you install your new Clic Laminate Flooring, make sure your sub flooring is clean and level. Once you have removed your old flooring, you can remove the base boards and sweep everything clean. If you have purchased the kind of flooring that needs an under pad, this is the time to roll it out. Know that you will be installing a floating floor and plan to leave 1/4 inch spaces at each wall. If you use spacers on the first wall, you can pull them out later. As you are "clicking" the floor together, you will need to use a rubber mallet and a pull bar to keep things tight. I suggest you start in a bedroom or hallway to get practice before you lay it in the living room. |
